Last week, our four Jr. Sr. High Schools sent educator teams to the AVID Summer Institute in Orlando, Florida. AVID is a different kind of education conference because it blends new learning with goal setting and site planning for the upcoming school year. As one teacher said, "AVID was such an inspirational and motivational training, I can't wait to get back to my classroom and implement what I have learned!"

This is for all PCSD families of student athletes: The PCSD, or the FHSAA, has not yet approved any group for the NIL (Name Image and Likeness) legislation. Registering with a group could cause athletes to be in violation of policies that could forfeit their amateur status and be deemed ineligible. Please do not contribute to or register with groups claiming to be affiliated with PCSD and its school. There are many websites claiming to be helpful to athletes, and they may be scams. An example is the NIL Club site that is circulating on social media. If you have questions, please contact your child’s school administrators or athletic director. Thank you!

🖤❤️💚💛 In observance of Juneteenth Freedom Day, all Putnam County School District campuses and offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th. Let's take this time to reflect on the significance of this important day.
PCSD recently attended the 4th Annual Palatka Juneteenth Community Cultural Event hosted by the Heart & Soul Youth Fine Arts Club. This event was a huge success, thanks to the incredible support from our community and partners. Our superintendent proudly represented PCSD, highlighting our commitment to community involvement and cultural celebration. 🖤❤️💚💛

AVID makes an impact, even beyond the classroom. Last Saturday, around 200 people gathered at Coventry Oaks to raise money and support for Elijah, a toddler living with both Fragile-X Syndrome and Autism. The goal of the event was to raise money for Elijah’s family to purchase a service dog and other expenses that can be upwards of $20,000. Amanda Lamb, AVID teacher at QI Roberts Jr. Sr. High School, jumped on the chance to help! Over the last month she has assembled an army of volunteers, businesses, and vendors to put on the 5K event and family fun day! The event was a great success for all involved and Elijah’s family was gifted $7000 toward his service dog. Camp Jumpstart is a partnership between Putnam County School District and Palatka Housing Authority. It is a FREE comprehensive K-6 program that offers academics to promote growth and avoid regression over the summer. Summer learning programs are proven to reinforce and build new skills, sending young people back to school in August ready to learn.
Summer learning programs like Camp Jumpstart are established to maintain and advance students' academic and social growth. This is sometimes referred to as the summer slide. Students who don't engage in learning daily can forget what they learned during the school year. An academic summer program incorporating enrichment experiences is the perfect way to engage students and ensure they don't forget the critical skills they have already learned.
Camp Jumpstart aims to improve students' academic achievement by exposing students in rural communities to STEAM and other supporting educational curriculums. PCSD District is committed to delivering comprehensive community-centered programming based on students' needs.
It ensures all students and families access to academically and socially enriching and meaningful summer experiences.

First Lady Casey DeSantis announced a new website to collect family-oriented, kid-friendly recipes for a project designed to benefit the Hope Florida Fund. She invites Floridians and parents from across the state to submit their favorite recipes.
“In the DeSantis family, we love cooking with the kids,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “I am asking Floridians to share their favorite kid-friendly recipes to be included in a project that will benefit the Hope Florida Fund. The Governor and I look forward to submissions from parents and cooks in the Sunshine State.”
Individuals interested in submitting a recipe can do so at www.Floridarecipes.com. Special consideration will be given to recipes that are specifically tailored for kids and incorporate the cuisine of a region in Florida. Submissions will be accepted through June 3, 2024.
