Putnam County School District Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15 every year.
When we speak of Hispanic and Latino Heritage, we speak of a rich, diverse cultural legacy. From Spain to Mexico, from Panama to Puerto Rico, from Ecuador to Chile, and Peru to the United States of America. About 10% of our student population is Hispanic and we know that our students reflect a wealth of cultural diversity. We are proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of people of Hispanic Heritage, the diversity of Hispanic people and the remarkable and beautiful wealth of Latin cultures around the world and right here in Putnam County. This event gave our students the opportunity to share the heritage and cultural traditions through, music, dance, art, and food.
Our guest speaker, Andrea P. Reyes, inspired our students at the event to "lean into the uncomfortable" and to dared them to do great things! Andrea, born in Bogota, Colombia, is an Immigration Attorney located in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University in 2006 with degrees in Psychology and Criminology. In 2012, she graduated Florida Coastal School of Law with Probono Honors, after focusing on immigration. In 2014, she opened up her solo practice dedicated exclusively to the practice of immigration law and has been practicing for the past 8 years. Her role as an immigration attorney and natural leader in her community has earned her the title “La Abogada de La Comunidad” as she has dedicated her free time to community engagement and education.
