Hurricane Ian Update

PCSD Operation Updates for Hurricane Ian
Monday, September 26, 2022 4:00PM

PCSD is working closely with local officials to monitor Hurricane Ian and its possible impact on Putnam County. Officials have made the decision to activate schools for community members needing a safe place to shelter.

Many factors are considered when opening a shelter, so even if our community experiences minimal physical effects from the storm, our district plays an important role in the response from the EOC. School administrators manage the operations of the shelters, bus drivers support the transportation of some community members, food service teams provide meals to shelter occupants, and our custodial, maintenance, and IT teams work to keep our facilities in order throughout the event.

Please know, there may be a need to make up missed instructional hours, and we will work closely with the Department of Education to determine how to meet the instructional time requirements.

Putnam County shelters will open Tuesday, September 27th at 6:00PM.

Schools will be closed Wednesday, September 28th through Friday, September 30th. Please check back at the end of the week for any updates to school closures.

Schools will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 27th. It is an early release day. For release times go to: https://www.putnamschools.org/...

PCSD athletic and extracurricular events will be cancelled beginning on Wednesday, September 28th. All regularly scheduled athletic events for Tuesday, September 27th, may continue as planned.

We encourage you to stay up to date with local news reports and will continue to share information via our website, emails, callouts and social media. Please see the Putnam County Emergency Operations website for shelter information and locations: EOC.Putnam-fl.com

We are here to support our students, staff, and families, and we are proud to serve our community during this time of need.
