Cambridge Award

At the May 13, 2025, School Board meeting, the Putnam County School District was proudly recognized as the Cambridge District of the Year in the Small District category for the 2024–25 academic year. This prestigious national award, presented annually by Cambridge, honors just three school districts—one each in the large, medium, and small categories—across the United States.

PCSD earned this distinction for its exceptional accomplishments in:

  • Expanding student access to the rigorous Cambridge curriculum

  • Maintaining and improving student performance on Cambridge exams

  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to academic success for all learners

The award is based on student performance from the November 2023 and June 2024 Cambridge exam series. Over the past three years, the number of Cambridge exams passed by PCSD students has grown from 685 in 2021–22 to 831 in 2023–24.

Superintendent Rick Surrency remarked, “This success highlights the incredible potential of our students and the unwavering commitment of our teachers to maintain high expectations in the classroom. It is a testament to the dedication of our employees and the broader community—all working together to provide rigorous educational opportunities for every learner.”

With eight schools across the District participating in the Cambridge program, PCSD continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to preparing students for future academic and career success. Participation in Cambridge programs also provides eligibility for the Bright Futures Scholarship, opening even more doors for students. The district’s efforts to expand access to advanced coursework—while maintaining a strong pass rate—reflect both meaningful growth and academic excellence.
