The Kiwanis Club of the Azalea City hosted its annual Straight A Student Luncheon and Awards Program on May 6, 2025, at the Shrine Club of Putnam County — an afternoon dedicated to celebrating academic excellence, character, and the future leaders of our community.
Lunch, provided by the Kiwanis Club, brought together proud families, educators, and community leaders to celebrate the academic success of students who earned straight A’s throughout the school year. Once everyone had enjoyed their meal, Kiwanis Club President Andy Rusnak opened the program with a warm welcome, followed by Ken Johnson leading the Toast to the Flag, Pledge of Allegiance, and Invocation.
Superintendent Rick Surrency delivered heartfelt remarks, commending students for their commitment to excellence and emphasizing the district’s focus on creating meaningful academic opportunities.
“I’m really proud of what we’re doing here in Putnam County,” Surrency said. “It’s about helping every student become the best version of themselves.”
The event's keynote address was delivered by Ian Boze, the 2024 PCSD Teacher of the Year. Boze captivated the room with a message that went beyond grades, emphasizing that while academic success is commendable, it’s only part of the story.
“Your grades are just part of the story,” Boze said. “You are not defined by the letters on your report card. The future doesn’t just need students who make all A’s — it needs thinkers, leaders, and problem-solvers.”
Boze encouraged students to stay curious, ask “why” and “how,” and strive to connect knowledge across subjects. He reminded them that real success lies not just in what you know, but what you do with what you know.
A highlight of the program was the presentation of awards by Jane Crawford and Kiwanis Club members, who recognized each student for their academic excellence. The pride in the room was unmistakable, as each name was called and each student celebrated.
The luncheon was a powerful reminder of what students in Putnam County can accomplish with hard work, resilience, and a strong support system. Congratulations to all of our straight A students — we are proud of your accomplishments and excited for all that your futures hold
