Putnam County, FL—Putnam County School District (PCSD) is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our students. We take all allegations regarding employee conduct with the utmost seriousness. In light of recent developments, we would like to provide the community with the following information.
We regret to announce that Mr. Robert Bush, a former teacher at Q.I. Roberts Jr./Sr. High School, was arrested in North Carolina on November 19, 2024. He has been charged in Florida with a second-degree felony of authority figure soliciting or engaging in lewd conduct with a student.
On October 14, 2024, the district received an anonymous tip through the Fortify Florida app, alleging inappropriate communication between Mr. Bush and a student. The district immediately launched an investigation, but no evidence or witness statements were found to support the claim at that time.
However, on October 23, 2024, new information in the form of screenshots prompted the district to reopen the investigation. In response, Mr. Bush was placed on administrative leave, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was notified to ensure a comprehensive review of the situation.
While the district’s investigation was ongoing, Mr. Bush resigned on November 4, 2024, before the internal review was completed. The sheriff’s office, however, continued its investigation following his resignation.
In alignment with our commitment to transparency, the district reported the matter to the Florida Department of Education’s Office of Professional Practices on November 4, 2024, ensuring all necessary steps are taken to safeguard the integrity of the teaching profession and protect the safety of our students.
Mr. Bush served the district for 15 years at Crescent City Jr.-Sr. High School, Jenkins Middle School, and most recently at Q.I. Roberts Jr.-Sr. High School. There were no prior complaints or incidents involving Mr. Bush during his tenure.
To support the students and staff at Q.I. Roberts Jr./Sr. High School, a counselor has been assigned to provide assistance. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at 386-329-0800 and speak with Detective Gogan.
We understand the gravity of this situation and the concern it may raise in our community. We want to reassure parents, students, and staff that we are addressing this matter with seriousness and diligence. The district fully cooperates with law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students.
The Putnam County School District holds all employees to the highest standards, and we will continue to work closely with local law enforcement to protect our students' safety and uphold our schools' integrity.
