Testing Requirements

FAST

  • All Putnam Virtual School students are required to participate in state testing throughout the school year.

  • All STAR Reading & Math (K-2) and F.A.S.T. assessments (3rd-12th) are computer-based. The testing room will be furnished with testing materials; however, students are required to bring their district chromebook.

  • There are three Progress Monitoring windows this year: September, December and May. All students are required to participate.

  • Parents/Guardians and students will be notified one month in advance of impending test dates, locations, and times (if applicable). Letters are mailed out prior to Spring Break to each student regarding PM3 testing dates, times and locations. If you do not receive a testing letter by the end of Spring Break, please contact the PVS office at (386) 329-0532.

  • Testing dates are set by the state and cannot be changed by the school district. It is important to keep in mind, PVS has students enrolled in grades K-12, which means our testing schedule can be very tight and may leave little room for make-up days. Please make every effort to attend on your child's scheduled testing day/time.

  • Students and parents will be notified via email, U.S. mail, ROOMS and/or CANVAS regarding testing dates. There are testing windows for retakes in July, September, December, and March.

  • PVS offers other testing opportunities, including the PERT, PSAT, NR_SAT, ACT and SAT School Day. More information will be provided about these opportunities throughout the school year.

Failure to participate in state mandatory testing during the school year will be grounds for removal from the program the following school year.

Practice Tests and Scripts

Practice tests and scripts as well as other helpful materials for students and families may be accessed at https://flfast.org/families.html

We strongly recommend that students participate in a practice session for each exam they will take. This is especially critical  if they have never tested using the FAST computer platform. Practice tests are an opportunity for your student to become familiar with the platform tools, how questions are asked, and how students will respond. Knowing what to expect will prepare the student and give a sense of comfort - but only if they truly use the practice test to grow.

review

Review the follow policies with your student before testing:

  • Electronic Devices—Students are NOT permitted to have any other electronic devices except their district chromebook. If a student is found with a cell phone, smartphone, smartwatch, and Bluetooth/wireless headphones/earbuds at any time during testing or during breaks (e.g., restroom), even if the devices are turned off or students do not use them, his or her test will be invalidated.  Prior to the start of the exam, we will ask that all devices be turned off and given to the proctor until after the testing session is completed.

  • Calculators—You should NOT bring a calculator. Calculators will be provided to students on specific exams where calculators are allowed.

  • Testing Rules Acknowledgment—All Statewide Science Assessments include a Testing Rules Acknowledgment that reads: “I understand the testing rules that were just read to me. If I do not follow these rules, my test score may be invalidated.” Prior to testing, test administrators read the rules to students, and students acknowledge that they understand the testing rules by signing below the statement in their test books or checking a box if computer-based.

  • Discussing Test Content after Testing—The last portion of the testing rules that is read to students before they sign below the Testing Rules Acknowledgment states: “Because the content in all statewide assessments is secure, you may not discuss or reveal details about the test content (including test items and passages) after the test. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting on social media.” Please make sure your student understands this policy prior to testing and remind them that “discussing” test content includes any kind of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, posting to social media, or sharing online. While students may not share information about secure test content after testing, this policy is not intended to prevent students from discussing their testing experiences with their parents/families.

  • Working Independently—Students are responsible for doing their own work during the test and for protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated. In addition, FDOE employs Caveon Test Security to analyze student test results to detect unusually similar answer patterns. Student tests within a school that are found to have extremely similar answer patterns will be invalidated.

  • Leaving Campus—If your student begins a test session and leaves campus before completing it (e.g., for lunch, an appointment), he or she will not be allowed to return to that test session. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days.

  • Testing Accommodations—If your student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a Section 504 plan, or is an English Language Learner (ELL) or a recently exited ELL, testing accommodations will be provided for your student.
