About Putnam Virtual School
Putnam Virtual School is the public virtual school in Putnam County Florida. We serve grades K-12 . Students are able to earn a high school diploma with Putnam Virtual School.
Due to the rigorous nature of online courses and the required fast pace on completion percent progression, this program is recommended for students who are performing at or above grade level. The program is not designed for remediation or for students with an intellectual disability.
Putnam Virtual School (PVS) had 13 graduates in 2025 and had 15 graduates in 2024. Many of our graduates are honor graduates and we've had graduates recognized as Putnam Top Scholars. To graduate from PVS, students must meet all the graduation requirements as students enrolled in a brick and mortar high school. All testing for Putnam Virtual School students takes place at C. L. Overturf District Center on 18th Street in Palatka. Our students can partake in advanced coursework such as Honors courses, as well as Dual Enrollment with St. Johns River State College.
PVS offers asynchronous online learning. Asynchronous learning means that the instructor and the students in the course engage with the course content at different times and from different locations. We offer two virtual curriculum options: MDVS, which is the District's Franchise of Florida Virtual School (FLVS) curriculum and Putnam FLEX, which is the District's partnership with Imagine Learning. There is NO LIVE INSTRUCTION with either curriculum. The online courses offered through both curriculums are well-developed and aligned to the new B.E.S.T. Florida standards. Coursework can be completed at any time during the day - thus families will create a schedule that works best for their child's learning style and family's needs.
Rigorous Instruction and a demanding timeline for course progression are components. Progression of 5-6% per week in EACH course is required. This is NOT an "at your own pace" program. Students can work as fast as they want, just not as slow as they want. If a student needs a slower pace, Home Education may be the better option. Students rostered under Home Education are withdrawn from the Putnam County Public School System and must provide their own computer if opting to do virtual courses.
Pending seat availability & principal approval, it may be an option for a student to take a select course at a student's zoned brick and mortar school. Student/Family must provide their own transportation.
PVS students must take 6 courses each semester (4 core classes + 2 electives) and follow the PCSD school year calendar. Starting the summer after sophomore year, for those who meet the criteria, Dual Enrollment courses are also encouraged for eligible students (passing PERT scores and a GPA of 3.0 or better).
